Mountain Hike

The shady mountain hike from Mellau mostly follows forest trails. The protected sycamores, which have been standing at the Waldalpe for many years, are something to look out for along the way.

The circular trail is a good choice for hot summer days, but is also nice too walk in early summer and autumn. The path to the Doseggalpe from the beautifully situated chapel in Bengath is quite steep – but runs through the forest whole time. The section after that also takes hikers through the forest to the 1,746-metre-high Hangspitze from where a beautiful panoramic view opens up. The Waldalpe is reached via the Guntenalpen and the Obergüntenstallalpe. The several sycamores that stand here on the extensive alpine pasture are a bit of a surprise. They provide shade for both animals and people. Alpine herders used to use their leaves as litter and for filling their bedding in the past. The route finally returns to Mellau along the Mellenbach.
